Re-starting plans when things go astray
When life throws you curveballs and procrastination and work and indecision and holidays…then sometimes the best laid plans get busted.
That’s what happened my 100 Day Project - it got off to an amazing start and then fizzled out without much fuss. I tried to retain the energy - I really did! But I find that it can be pretty hard to keep up the momentum if I’m honest. There were parts that really excited me, and other parts…well I knew I needed to address them but kept putting them off so they ended up not getting done.
In all honesty I’m trying to figure out if it’s part of my yearly energy cycle - I’ve figured out that once Christmas is done (that space between Christmas and New Year), my creativity explodes and I just want to PAINT. January through to April are productive with planning and writing and actually getting stuff done. May onwards just seem to be very adhoc. And if last year (2022) is anything to go by, November to December are not productive in the slightest.
I reckon I’ve a long way to go before I understand the yearly creative cycle properly - which should hopefully help me to harness / direct it a bit better too. But in the meantime, I’m re-visiting the key aspects of what made the start of my 100 Day Project so productive:
Outlining clear goals and objectives for the month
Breaking those down the smaller tasks and writing it all down so I can tick off the list
Ensure those tasks actually contribute to the bigger goal/picture
Identify what actual time I have available and try to schedule in the fun stuff like painting with the more admin side
That’s the current plan - going to find a super fun and exciting way to deliver systems into my art practice. Is there a super fun and exciting way of achieving that?! I don’t know but there are stuff that just don’t come naturally to me so having systems in place will greatly help me in those areas…
