2022 – a little review of a chaotic year

2022 was a chaotic, frantic year where the world rushed to catch up on all the lost time due to Covid. It has been an absolutely full on year. So much good stuff but so much shit to unravel and work through.

Creativity has been an amazing outlet for me to express myself this year. And as the year progressed so has my interest in combining an emotion-led approach to my art.

Gifts from 2022

2022 has been a year that:

– I’ve returned to creative writing

– I’ve unlocked a passion for exploring emotions and art and how they can be linked

– I’ve started to establish a pattern to my creative flow

– I’ve developed a new understanding of my art, its meaning to me and the direction I want to go

– I’ve learned that sometimes the best thing you can do for your creativity is to give yourself a break from creating if you need to. (Easy to say for someone not earning a living from their creativity. I absolutely understand that the approach needs to be different if you do earn from your art.)

2022 has also been extremely busy – with work, with family life and dealing with Covid and flus and lots of disturbed sleep. All of these have affected my mood and my creativity. As a result, I often found my creative well was dry and I felt like I had nothing else to give creatively. And I’ve been working to navigate through all that in a sustainable way. Moreover, I have also been figuring out how to give myself some grace in refilling my creative cup – even if that meant not doing a whole pile of anything for a lot of November and December,

Tapping back into my love of writing that has laid dormant for so many years is really supporting my drive to understand myself and my art better.

2023 aims

– Continue to understand my cycle of creativity – are there times of the year that I’m more productive (or less productive!) for certain things like creating art, writing, website design, etc.

– Build my audience and my understanding of the value that I can bring to that audience

– Schedule things – like website work, learning and blog writing

There are so many other things I want to achieve in 2023 but I believe those three things will be a foundation stone to helping me get started.
