The idea for “You, Yourself” came about as part of my 100 Day Project 2024 efforts. Life was really busy and I had lost the creative spark / urge and I thought, what if I go back to basics and go do the things I enjoy, without pressure or need to produce?
And that sparked the theme for the exhibition - what does happen when you lose yourself in the threads of life? How do you “come back” to yourself?! I will sincerely say, that I now don’t think that you “come back” to yourself. You become yourself. You hopefully get on a path or journey of discovery and identify the parts of you that you want to keep in your life and bring in new things, new ways of dealing with life’s obstacles and remember that you’re worth it all - all of the effort it takes you while on this journey.
I was really lucky that I had signed up for the exhibition through Clare Arts Office and that I have such a great space in the Clare Museum to share my work. If you can’t make the in-person exhibition though, please enjoy this and join my Instagram page for more!
How do you paint about finding your “pink”? That thing that makes your heart sing? Should it be literal? Should it be full of pinks? Or is it more important to follow your own path and not do what you feel like you “should” paint…
We are made of so much more and are capable of so much more than we give ourselves credit for.
These pieces are all about taking something ordinary - a street scene in a town, a lake, the ocean…and adding something extraordinary and expansive - like the milky way and the northern lights and a sunset melting into the night.
